Beauty & Personal Care

Supporting the Beauty & Personal Care value chain with a comprehensive approach to ingredient evaluation and selection backed by the best available science

INTRODUCING

This collaboration is inspired by poet Maya Angelou who offered these words of wisdom, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then, when you know better, do better.”

This philosophy speaks to a cycle of continuous improvement as the industry seeks to uncover trusted, science-backed information to ensure sustainable and health-protective decisions for humans and the environment.

We believe that when provided with trusted, cost-effective knowledge about chemical hazards and safer alternatives, the supply chain will make safer choices - resulting in better human and environmental outcomes.

what

A science-based, data-driven, industry led collaboration supported by ChemFORWARD and utilizing a shared chemical hazard repository.

know better, do better charter

  • We agree that data gaps are unacceptable and that the issue is larger than any one company;

  • We commit to a collaborative effort to fill data gaps and create a minimum dataset for botanicals; and

  • We encourage suppliers to have their trade name ingredients assessed.

WHO

Together, we are leading a first-of-its-kind safer chemistry collaboration to create a science-based, shared dataset that will improve human health and environmental impacts across the industry and strengthen trust with consumers.

HOW

Ingredient Intelligence Reporting

Whether it’s a single formulated product, a brand portfolio, or an entire retail assortment, ChemFORWARD analyzes ingredients against the repository of comprehensive chemical hazard assessments and produces custom Ingredient Intelligence Reports.

Reports are used to provide clear, comparable data for chemical management reporting and can be used annually to track progress year over year. Reports are designed to:

  • Measure progress against established chemical management goals;

  • Verify the elimination of chemicals of high concern (compliance with RSLs);

  • Quantify the use of safer chemistry;

  • Target investment to fill data gaps; and

  • Stay ahead of regulations and consumer trends.

Aggregated data across brands and retailers offers industry insight for collective action.
