ChemFORWARD to Showcase Safer Chemistry in  Household and Industrial Cleaners at SOT 2026

DURHAM, NC — At the upcoming Society of Toxicology (SOT) 65th Annual Meeting, leaders from the science-based nonprofit ChemFORWARD will present a data-driven solution aimed at accelerating the adoption of safer chemistry in household and industrial cleaners.

Extensive use of chemical cleaners and degreasers in electronics (and other consumer goods) assembly poses critical occupational health risks, including respiratory health. ChemFORWARD will present the launch of a dedicated, free, web-based application designed to help formulators rapidly replace high-hazard chemicals with safer alternatives.

Featured Poster Presentation

Attendees are invited to explore the data and methodology behind this initiative during the Epidemiology and Public Health session.

Key Features of the ChemWorks Platform

The newly completed ChemWorks.org platform creates a full pathway from ingredient-level evaluation to market adoption:

  • Ingredient Optimization: Search for safer ingredients by function (from antimicrobials to surfactants).

  • Verified Data: Access hazard bands and regulatory "red flags" based on comprehensive chemical hazard assessments (CHAs).

  • Framework Alignment: Identify trade name materials that have been accepted by leading frameworks such as GreenScreen Certified™, US EPA Safer Choice, and ToxFMD®.

  • Industry Standards: Navigate compliance with IPC-1402 and other electronics safety standards.

By pre-screening formulations, the tool reduces development costs and accelerates the timeline for products to be featured on the Safer Cleaners Registry, providing the entire industry with visibility into safer options.

  • ChemFORWARD is a non-profit, science-based organization committed to creating broad access to chemical hazard data, illuminating safer alternatives, and ending toxic chemical exposure. We populate, manage, and maintain the Chemical Hazard Data Trust, a shared repository of comprehensive chemical hazard assessments that are conducted by leading toxicology firms, peer-reviewed by independent toxicologists, and reviewed for validity biannually. This foundational hazard information covers over 220,000 chemicals known to be used in commerce across multiple supply chains and is essential for hazard-first decision-making.
