The Honest Company Partners with ChemFORWARD to Co-Design the Future of Science-Based Home & Personal Care

ChemFORWARD is proud to announce The Honest Company as the newest Co-Design Partner. The Honest Company brings a decade of applied experience, as well as extensive background in ingredient safety and formulation guidelines through The Honest Standard, to this collaboration.

ChemFORWARD’s Co-design Partners are leaders from diverse industries who share a commitment to scaling the availability of safer chemistry. The companies involved work together to populate and expand access to chemical hazard data that will empower the supply chain to make informed decisions about the chemistry they use in home and personal care products. By creating broad access to chemical hazard data and illuminating safer alternatives, the Partners aim to confirm the elimination of harmful substances and advance measurable use of safer chemistry.

The Honest Company prioritizes protecting human health, ingredient innovation, uncompromising performance, and radical transparency. The company’s ingredient and material assessment, and process of continuous improvement, has made The Honest Company an industry leader in chemical and ingredient management.

“Expanding our co-design efforts with leaders like The Honest Company signals the next phase in our work. We are embarking on a science-based, data-driven, knowledge initiative to populate a comprehensive shared repository of hazard data for traditional and botanical ingredients that will help to ensure human and environmental health,” explained Stacy Glass, Executive Director of ChemFORWARD. “ChemFORWARD’s digital infrastructure is an enabler but the real transformation is happening inside companies and through their supply chains, making our partners the heroes of this system's transformation that will benefit all consumers.”

“As a long-time collaborator with ChemFORWARD, joining on as a co-design partner will help our company make further strides in bringing safe products to the marketplace that help us fulfill our mission to our consumers every day,” said Heather McKenney, Head of Toxicology & Product Safety at The Honest Company. “Work to incorporate the fundamentals of safer chemistry into product formulation is extremely resource-intensive from establishing standards and gathering information in the supply chain to conducting toxicological assessments on all ingredients and identifying safer alternatives. By working together, this collaborative initiative of retailers, brands, and suppliers will lead to a first-of-its-kind shared data set to support safe and sustainable design.”
